Tor from the handset
The embedded Arti client builds an isolated onion route for each room. There is no clearnet fallback hidden behind the interface.
One-to-one voice calls with no account, no contact upload, and no central directory. Chatr encrypts your audio before it enters Tor; the relay only forwards opaque bytes.

A deliberately small system
Chatr does one thing: it connects two people who already have a private way to share an invitation.
The embedded Arti client builds an isolated onion route for each room. There is no clearnet fallback hidden behind the interface.
A short-lived, 256-bit invitation secret authenticates a fresh Noise encryption channel.
The relay pairs random rooms and forwards ciphertext. It does not receive the invitation secret or audio key.
No profile, phone number, contact book, presence indicator, public username, recording, or server-side conversation history.
Under the surface
Chatr generates a random room and secret locally. Invitations expire after fifteen minutes.
Send the text or QR through a channel you already trust. Anyone holding it can join until it expires.
Both phones derive the same short verification code. Read it aloud before discussing anything sensitive.
Opus voice frames travel inside Noise encryption, itself transported through Tor to the onion relay.

Chatr has not had an independent security audit. Do not use this build for life-safety, source protection, emergency calling, or communications where failure could put somebody at risk.
Automatic reconnection is not implemented yet. Tor bootstrap can also take time on a first call.
A compromised phone, unsafe invitation channel, denial of service, and traffic analysis remain outside Chatr's protection.
